Hi, for all of you out there that doesn’t know me and has asked who are you and what do you do for a living, and how did you get started on pipe organs.  I’m not good with words when it comes to setting them down; I like to get straight to the point. So here I go, well my name is Phil Radford I use the pseudonym Pipeorganphil on the net. (For more on my net activities please Google for Pipeorganphil.) My field so to speak, I’m a director of my own very successful company in the electronics industry that has roots going back to 1987.
Now just a bit on how I got started on all this organ building,
I think from all my postings on the AOBG Website and it’s forum or even the big wide web you will come to understand I’m no professional or do I profess to be professional organ builder in anyway.
It all started along long time ago, I have always had an interest in mechanical things and music nothing unusual in that, well so one would think.  Now I was an adopted boy from about 5 years of age and from about that time I was always looking for something but didn’t know what it was.
I like music but not like my friends, as I don’t really like music that had vocals in them but didn’t really understand why. To cut the story very short, in my late thirties I met back up with my sadly missed biological father.  I always knew where he was and I was always very proud of him, now I know he was in to mechanical things but I was always under the impression it was steam engines that rocked his boat, but it was pipe organs as well. I knew about pipe organs and basically how they worked and at events you would always find me sat in front of an organ. Now my father and newly found brother invited me into their workshop and this is where everything fell into place it was a bit like going home to some where you’d never been but it was home. All the answers were in that workshop like the John Smith pipe organ that was being built. So that put me on the route of pipe organs. So that’s where I got into building pipe organs. So I went on the rampage collecting anything to do with pipe organs and I mean anything, pipes, complete organs, any plans, books and so on.  Then studied organs for quite some time before embarking on building one.  So thank you all out there that as helped me over the years.
I run this website and its forum at my own expense so hope you find it interesting. I consider the AOBG website and its forum to belong to all you Amateur Organ Builders out there. The AOBG was my first stab at a website and forum. The AOBG website or its forum is not just restricted to Amateur Organ Builders if you’re a professional organ builder you or your team will be welcome on the website/forum. I would like to thank each and every one for your support and for taking the time to look at our works. If anyone out there as an article that is relevant or just of interest to members of the AOBGer’s and you would like to see on the AOBG website or forum please use the contact link to get in touch.
